Martinique: The Real French Caribbean
By Mike Thiel
I first set eyes on Martinique exactly 20 years ago. We went there to board the then-new Wind Star, the first of a fleet of boutique-style sailing cruise ships. We figured we'd come a few days early to check out the island, dubbed--most appropriately--Fleur des Caraibes, or Flower of the Caribbean.
Spreading Our Wings Over the Nile
By Sue Emmerick
We had been interested in a trip to Egypt for a long time, studying various tour company brochures over the years, even making a comparison chart. When Hideaways offered what we thought was the best trip with INTRAV--called Wings Over the Nile--we signed up right away.
As You Like It: Scuba Diving
By Pat Chaudoin
My husband, Steve, is an avid scuba diver. Every time we head somewhere tropical—the Keys, the Dominican Republic, Mexico's Riviera Maya—he lugs along fins, mask, snorkel, and wetsuit. I, on the other hand, suffer from claustrophobia and break out in cold sweats just thinking about donning all that gear and heading 30, 50, even 100 feet below the surface.
Heaven is White
By Katia Lillis
Every couple of years, my children and husband and I head over to Naples, Italy, to visit my family. This year we traveled at Christmastime, and I had the chance to take a side trip to the beautiful Amalfi Coast to visit Casa Angelina Lifestyle HotelTHC, where sun and sea hold hands.
Living Local at The College Hotel
By Paul McAskill
"Amsterdam in December?!" That was pretty much the reaction we got when friends learned that my wife, Brenda, and I were traveling to this city of tulips, bicycles, and canals this past winter. Admittedly, it's not everyone's idea of the perfect season to visit Amsterdam, but when the timing worked out for us, we jumped at the chance to see a part of the world we'd always dreamed of visiting.
Heavenly Smiles at Half Moon
By Pat Chaudoin
The Christmas rush was over, the credit-card bills hadn't come in yet, and my husband and I were in Jamaica, escaping a full week of January in New England. What could be sweeter? Well . . . maybe one more swig of that rum punch we were enjoying poolside--in the balmy sea breeze at Half Moon resort, just outside Montego Bay.
To the Core of Santorini: Vedema!

As You Like It: Group Travel
An old proverb states, "Some roads aren't meant to be traveled alone." Mark Twain took a decidedly more pragmatic approach, saying, "I have discovered that there ain't no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them." And inveterate traveler Ernest Hemingway added, "Never go on trips with anyone you do not love."

Getting to Know Fernando Barroso de Oliviera
The Spirit of Mañana
Talk about a fortunate, if not serendipitous, encounter with a stretch of almost-deserted beach. In 1986, avid sailor Preston Dalglish was working his way around the West Indies with some sailing buddies when he spotted an intriguing and beautiful bit of white sand and blue cove.
Hideaways on the Road, March 2007
Come along with us as we showcase a handful of brief staff and ambassador reports from hideaway-style places we've exper-ienced recently. Some we loved and might invite to become members of The Hideaways Collection™, while some we didn't think that much of. In either case, we think you'll enjoy the insight.
