Hideaways' Review
Bodrum . . . a mysterious city of ancient legends and artifacts, of biblical history and the Knights of St. John, of fascinating works of art and architecture, all rolled into one amazing destination. And within its midst, high on a hilltop overlooking the city and the deep-blue Aegean, the Marmara Bodrum weaves a rich tapestry of contemporary design that can only be summed up as fresh and somewhat astonishing in a region that easily dates back to the 13th century B.C. With views that unfurl like tendrils to all parts of the Bodrum Peninsula, this luxury boutique hotel is a refreshing breeze of sleek modernism in an area that boasts the ruins of a Hellenistic-period amphitheater and the ancient Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. Just 97 elegant rooms and spacious suites provide a haven from the midday sun; step inside for a cool palette of cream walls mixed with mosaic-tiled baths, sea-grass chairs, and black-and-cream, African-inspired block-print furnishings. Hand-carved wooden doors and shutters open onto sweet little surprises like your own palm tree garden, or a sweeping view of Bodrum's Castle of St. Peter anchored at the tip of the peninsula.
At some point, you'll want to wander down to the water's edge and the Marmara Bodrum beach, where comfy chaises for sunning line a small dock, and where the water is warm and nurturing. If you prefer, stay "topside" for swimming at the hotel's terraced pool, where a cool cocktail awaits and the million-dollar views are free for the taking. And speaking of views—how could you have known you'd be so thoroughly entranced by the sunsets from the rooftop dining terrace of Tuti Restaurant? Never mind that its Mediterranean dishes have equally tantalized your taste buds. And don't even resist falling under the spell of the Marmara Spa, with its Turkish bath and warm chocolate massage. |
