Hideaways' Review
This contemporary beauty heralds a new generation of luxury hotel rising up out of formerly oppressed Berlin, a city reborn that is gaily heading into its future with the full force of youth and energy. Like the adolescent it is (it opened in 2005), Hotel Concorde Berlin is dynamic, stylish, and germane. Its tapering, 17-story façade is characterized by elegant minimalism. Simple, clean interiors are enhanced by sophisticated lighting, primary colors, and contemporary sculpture and artwork. The hotel's location in the City West is ideal—just off the fashionable shopping district of Kurfuerstendamm, and opposite the trendy new shopping mecca, Kranzler Eck. Cultural attractions such as Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and the Zoologischer Garten are also just steps away.
Boasting the largest guest rooms in Berlin, the hotel features 311 thoughtfully designed, artistically furnished rooms and suites with long walls of windows, cleverly hidden cupboards, and large, contemporary-but-comfortable bathrooms. Cuisine—and the spaces it's served in—matters to Concorde, and like many of the chain's other fine hotels, the food and atmosphere at Berlin is top-rate. Here, naturally, it's nouvelle, at the sleek, contemporary brasserie named Le Faubourg, which also turns into a DJ lounge on weekend nights. Should you wish for entertainment of a quieter sort, head for the lobby's Lutece Bar. Ensconced in deep leather seating and subdued lighting, you can enjoy a cocktail and indulge in the age-old sport of people watching. You're guaranteed to soak up a bit of that vitality and youth of a city on the move. |
